Rockingham County Municipal Building Auditorium

MFI Pro was selected to design and install the complete audiovisual system for the new Rockingham County Municipal Building auditorium as part of a new construction project led by Warrenstreet Architects and Harvey Construction. The goal was to create a modern, flexible space capable of supporting public meetings, presentations, hybrid conferencing, and recording—while remaining intuitive for day-to-day operation.

A Video-First Auditorium Design

12’ x 7’ Taylorled Collaborate 163 LED video wall

At the center of the room is a 12’ x 7’ Taylorled Collaborate 163 LED video wall, which serves as the primary visual focal point of the auditorium. Designed to replace a traditional projection system, the LED wall delivers high brightness, strong visibility, and consistent image quality for presentations, remote participants, and shared content—regardless of ambient light conditions.

Flanking the video wall on either side are Electro-Voice LRC-2100-B loudspeakers, providing clear, intelligible speech reinforcement across the seating area and ensuring even coverage for both in-room attendees and streamed content.

Centralized Processing, Simple Control

AV Equipment rack with touch panel, microphones, record decks and amplifiers

The system is built around a Q-Sys control architecture, which serves as the backbone for audio and video transport and control throughout the room. This approach allows for a clean, scalable system architecture while keeping signal flow reliable and serviceable.

Room control is handled through two QSC TSC-70-G3 touchscreen controllers:

  • One fixed at the equipment rack

  • One portable panel connected via a dedicated cable loom, allowing it to be positioned where it’s most useful during meetings or events

The control interface provides access to camera control, microphone levels, source selection, conference call connection and privacy, as well as system functions. While designed to be approachable for non-technical staff, the system offers enough depth and flexibility for users who have received basic training to confidently manage more complex sessions.

Wireless Microphones for Presenters

To support multiple presenters and flexible room use, the auditorium is equipped with eight Shure SLXD2 wireless handheld microphones. These microphones provide consistent sound quality and reliability for public meetings, panel discussions, and guest speakers.

Charging and storage are handled via Shure SBC203 docking stations mounted directly in the equipment rack, keeping microphones organized, charged, and ready for use at all times.

Conferencing, Recording, and Hybrid Meetings

QSC NC-12x80 installed in ceiling

For video conferencing and recording, the system utilizes two QSC NC-12x80 cameras, enabling high-quality video capture for both live conferencing and archival recordings. The room is designed to be platform-agnostic, allowing users to bring their own device (BYOD) and connect to their preferred conferencing service without being locked into a single ecosystem.

In addition to live conferencing, the rack includes two Blackmagic Design HyperDeck Studio HD Plus recorders, providing dedicated hardware-based recording for meetings, presentations, and official proceedings.

Presenter Connectivity & BYOD Flexibility

Multiple presenter connection points are distributed throughout the space using floor boxes that can be opened as needed. These endpoints allow presenters to quickly connect laptops and devices without running cables across the room. The portable control touchscreen also provides BYOD connectivity, supporting smooth transitions between speakers and minimizing setup time during meetings.

Assisted Listening & Accessibility

AURI-RX1 assisted listening receiver

To support accessibility needs, the auditorium includes a Listen Technologies AURI assisted listening system, featuring an AURI-TX2N-A0 transmitter. This system allows attendees with compatible Bluetooth® hearing aids and cochlear implants to connect directly through the AURI app—eliminating the need for a dedicated receiver. AURI-RX1 receivers are also available for guests who do not have compatible hearing devices, ensuring everyone can clearly follow proceedings without compromising the experience for other users.

A System Built for the Long Term

This installation reflects MFI Pro’s approach to civic and institutional projects: systems that are robust, flexible, and thoughtfully designed to support evolving needs. By combining modern display technology, scalable networked AV infrastructure, intuitive control, and accessible design, the Rockingham County Municipal Building auditorium is well equipped to serve county staff and the public for years to come.
